Marking our 40+ years of helping the hospital

THE League of Friends celebrated 40 years of fund raising in 2013. To mark the anniversary we gave a teddy bear and a keepsake box to all babies born in Leighton Hospital on May 15 and June 12. Those dates are the opening of the shop in 1983 and the launch of the League of Friends in 1973.

On May 15, five boys and three girls received teddies and three girls were the recipients on June 12.

We have a similar gift for babies each Christmas.

The teddies, seen here with a midwife, were presented in pink or blue bags and had neck bows, nose, ears and paws to match.

The League has run the hospital shop for 35 years and moved into new premises in the Main Entrance in 2014.

To mark the milestone we had a promotion in the previous hospital shop behind the reception desk in the Main Entrance. We gave a bottle of still spring water free with every sandwich bought between May 15 and June 12. This went well with sandwiches "flying off the shelf".
